reset with me - personal OKRs, work checklist, word of the year!🍵 just design tea #7
Low investment, high ROI stuff.
My word for this year is confidence.
I am not a big fan of new year's resolutions - 12 months is a long time. What if I screw up and need a start-over? What if the goals now, don’t serve the version I am 6 months later?
I like to consider every month/ quarter as a milestone to set and tweak “my roadmap and OKRs”.
There is a legit formalized effect by researchers called the fresh start effect aka we have more likelihood of achieving our set goals at the start of a new time period. Every week, month, or day can be your fresh start. It’s what we decide to tell ourselves.
So yes don’t fret if your first week back at work you weren’t on top of the game, you still don’t have a set of resolutions, or you had some but would like to reconsider as time goes.
Here’s what I do.
I have roughly 3-4 OKRs for the next 3 months. They are not even new, more of a carry-over from last year. I spent like 15 minutes thinking if they still make sense, and broadly cover all that I wanna do.
Examples of past personal OKRs
Finish writing 2 case studies
Write 1 blog/ month
Meditate daily
Workout 3 times/ week
Visit home 2 times this year
Very simple and measurable. And tweakable for smaller intervals.
And no I do not have an elaborate spreadsheet or notion dashboard tracking these. 💁♀️ A simple note where I can see it often.
I did decide to have a word for this year. It is more of an intention. Doing all the things I am currently doing, but with more confidence. In myself, in the universe.
What would be your word of the year? If you hit reply and send it to me, it will make my day. x
🤍 my favorite things this week.
Apart from the end-of-season sales.
🎙 Podcast - Lenny’s top 10 snippets of the year episode was brilliant. I could get the overall vibe of the podcast, while also picking a few episodes I want to start with.
📺 Netflix - I finished watching Kaleidoscope (7/10) - the storyline is quite loose, but the novelty of being able to swap episode orders makes up for it to an extent. I also watched Wednesday (11/10), Emily in Paris (9/10), Meghan & Harry (7/10)
📕 Book - Would recommend Building a Second Brain if you are looking to sort out your digital notes this year.
🧠 On my back burner - I am trying to start building a second brain this year. I read the book during the holidays, have been reading/ watching videos, and have v1 of my notion. I will keep you updated once I know what I am doing.

My word for this year is love! I could say why but I'd rather leave it to interpretation :)
