Do you fear success? I think I do.
When I started talking about design tea club, I was very nervous. Trying to create and sell this idea was out of my comfort zone.
I realized I would be okay if it failed but terrified if it was a success.🙃
My triggered brain rushed around to create a future plan - What will I do next? What will people think? What if I mess up/get cancelled?
We fear success just like we fear failure at times. Success would mean stepping into a newer version of yourself.
We’ve all been there. Taking up a new job. Dating someone new. Starting a new creative endeavour. Standing up to our family. Putting something out on internet. Setting an alarm for 6AM.
I almost didn’t do this tea club thing - but then I talked myself into it.
How do you convince yourself to bet on yourself?
🦚 Refocus on the why
Why do you want to step out of your comfort zone? What is waiting for you on the other side?
It could be better health, more money, a sense of purpose, a new friend…
Personally, I reminded myself of all the times I have benefited from people sharing their unfiltered stories with me.
🦚 Protect your OG energy
It’s so easy to absorb anxiety and fears of people around us. When you first thought about your idea, how did you feel?
I went on a walk and wrote down my vision. I could feel the energy I would curate for this session. That energy gave me back my energy.
🦚 Big yourself up
Just like Rebecca in Ted Lasso - sometimes you have to big yourself up. It can be top-notch self talk or just physically making yourself do a warrior yoga pose.
🦚 Let your gut to speak up
If you have a strong feeling about something, you should do it. By not choosing to act on your instincts or trying to convince yourself otherwise, you are dimming that inner voice.
🦚 Give permission to fail
The number one thing that calmed me was giving myself permission to fail.
I accepted that this might fail - no one might sign up, it might just be me and my sister who I paid to be there, folks might subtweet me lol.
It’s okay to fail, I will try something else again. At least I know I tried.
What’s something you have been meaning to do but can’t find enough guts to?
You forget about her, and then you stumble upon a video of her and you are like omg she is the most wholesome person ever. And you are back to that moment when you first saw her walking down the stairs in Goblet of Fire. #iykyk

Scarred by medium articles, I was not expecting much. It turned out to be such a thoughtful deep piece of writing!

Warning: it’s dark and heart-wrenching. If you like books with strong relentless women characters, you will love this.
